The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in the United States has named new bacteria found on the filters of the International Space Station (ISS) after former President of India Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, it is reported.
According
to the reports, the new spore forming bacteria has been found only on
the ISS and not yet on the Earth.

new bacteria have been named Solibacillus kalamii to honour the late
Indian president and noted aerospace scientist who had his early
training at NASA in 1963.
It
is said that the species has been named after Dr Kalam and genus name
is Solibacillus. According to NASA, the bacteria was on board the ISS
for 40 months in the HEPA filter.
The
filter was analysed this year and led to the discovery of the new
bacteria. The discovery was published in the International Journal of
Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology.
